In the console eSports world there are few events that hold higher prestige than those of the MLG Pro Circuit. These fun filled weekends take place 6 times a year to provide us with highs and lows, clutches and chokes, losers and champions. Luckily for us in Europe, as MLG grow and transform into what will eventually become an international corporation, the promise of bigger and better media coverage comes to life.
Call of Duty: Black Ops The first Black Ops event has strong promise particularly for on-line spectators. MLG have recruited Corey Dunn from PC commentary; Derek Drake, a "colour-commentary" expert and Sean Bellafiore, whose in game knowledge is second to none, to commentate on their Black Ops stream this year. They are also offering, for the first time, HQ streaming. Details of all of this can be found at the bottom of this article.
This year sniping specialists and YouTube phenomenon OpTic Gaming are heavily tipped for the top spot. They walked away with the best record and 2nd place during the on-line qualifiers, dominating many teams along the way. Another team to watch are Quantic LeveraGe who finished 1st in the on-line qualifiers and have already enjoyed victory against OpTic Gaming during the final of the on-line $25,000 GameBattles final. However, for a long time American competitive CoD has had two teams that have consistently brought home the bacon. EnVyUs and FeaR have met in countless finals, both on-line and at LAN and despite not making an impact during the on-line qualifiers these giants should never be underestimated.
